Direct from France, a remarkable antique carved oak Gothic shrine featuring St. Thérèse of Lisieux, her beautifully carved figure housed within the original architectural niche.

The delicately hand carved figure of St. Thérèse is depicted in her Carmelite habit holding a crucifix and roses, with beautifully rendered facial features, deeply carved folds and exceptional detail throughout.

Equally impressive, the substantial oak niche features a deeply molded cornice above a cusped Gothic arch framed by carved rosettes, slender columns and pierced quatrefoil details along the sides.

Created during the extraordinary rise in devotion to St. Thérèse following her 1925 canonization, shrines such as this were used in Catholic homes, convents and chapels as dedicated places for prayer. Known as the “Little Flower,” St. Thérèse became one of the most beloved Catholic saints of the 20th century, making this beautifully preserved French example especially evocative of its era, circa 1930.
