The Isparta … Read more This is a hand-knotted Turkish Sparta (Isparta) rug from the 1960s, woven in a Persian Kerman style design. The Isparta workshops took inspiration from the fine floral carpets of Kerman and Tabriz, and this one nails the look: a small central medallion sitting in a sea of tiny teal vines and blossoms on an ivory ground, with scalloped saffron-yellow spandrels in the corners and a teal main border of palmettes and rosettes framed by chocolate brown guard stripes.

The palette is unusual and really pretty in person. Ivory, teal and mustard yellow with accents of soft grey and cocoa brown. It reads lighter and airier than most vintage Turkish rugs, so it brightens a room instead of anchoring it, and the fine, busy pattern hides a lot of everyday life. Works with coastal, boho, traditional, or a clean modern space that needs one good textile.


Condition: Good vintage condition. Low pile with the kind of even, all-over wear that gives it a washed, timeworn look, most noticeable in the ivory field. A few small areas of lower pile along the yellow spandrels visible in the close-ups, consistent with age. No holes, tears, repairs or stains. Sides are secure and ends are finished. Professionally washed and ready for the floor.
