The bronze is finished in a striking multi-tone patina. Warm brown and golden bronze tones define the mermaid's figure, while her tail and rocky base display a rich turquoise-green verdigris finish reminiscent of naturally aged bronze exposed to the ocean. The fish and flowing hair are rendered in darker tones.

The work draws upon the long artistic tradition of mermaids, nereids, and other mythological sea figures that have decorated European fountains, gardens, and architectural water features for centuries.
