This trunk has received some attention on the exterior that left it looking nice overall, better than the pictures portray, … Read more This trunk has received some attention on the exterior that left it looking nice overall, better than the pictures portray, as the lighting just wouldn't cooperate. It is very solid, has not received any moisture damage, and aside from the lock, all functions properly. The interior will need to be re-lined if it is to be in the same league as the outside. Top to bottom details: The slightly domed top is fine on the whole. The slats are all secure, and the metal is in relatively good condition. There is a piece missing from the metal strip that runs along the bottom of the lid (located on the left side); otherwise, all is fine. The hinges at the back work as they should, and the top fits onto the base as it should. The front looks excellent for the age, but to have it be in the condition that it's in, there was some clever "repairing" of the lock area. It looks like someone lost the key, and to open the trunk, a square section was removed. This left a hole in the center of the front, so an antique recessed pull knob was installed. This produced the desired result, with the piece blending in well with the rest of the hardware. The latches to the left and right work as they should, and the metal portions and oak slat pieces are in fine shape. The sides are both good with no damage or excessive wear, but they no longer retain the leather handles. The backside, like the rest of this piece, is free of damage or any real wear, and it looks fine overall. The bottom has some dents and scratches, but there were no issues found to point out. The four metal caster wheels are all present and roll properly. The interior, as can be seen, was once lined with paper that has come off in spots; we also removed some of the looser pieces. What the lack of the paper does do is expose the wood. It is in very good condition from the underside of the lid to the bottom of the trunk with no damage present. The interior has a slight smell of old wood in a good way, as opposed to the smell of old wood that has been the home of mice for years. Please see the pictures for further details.
