Marilyn Monroe with Robe, 1962
from the legendary pool sessions on the set of Something's Got to Give...the last film Monroe began but never finished. Schiller was the only photographer given full access to those sessions, and his images from that day remain the most intimate and significant photographs ever taken of Monroe. This image captures her in the robe. A moment of transition, of covering and uncovering, of the constant negotiation between the public persona and the private person that defined her life. It is a photograph of extraordinary tenderness.
