This substantial handmade vessel features a rounded bulbous form with flared rim and an elaborate all-over geometric design. The deep polished black surface contrasts beautifully with the matte black decoration, incorporating sweeping linear, geometric and abstract motifs inspired by the Casas Grandes / Paquimé pottery tradition.

The vessel is handmade, with evidence of the hand-forming process visible and tactile on the interior. The underside is incised with the signature of Jesús Pina, a recognized Mata Ortiz pottery artist from Chihuahua, Mexico.

A particularly attractive example with a strong glossy black finish and exceptionally intricate decoration extending around virtually the entire body.

Measurements: approximately 10” high x 10” widest.
