It's molded in low relief directly into the clay body, worn soft at the edges from age and handling rather than crisp the way a new casting would be. The form itself likely started as an architectural piece, roofline or drainage terracotta from a Chinese building, before it found a second life as a vessel. Fired in the same unglazed reddish clay used across centuries of Chinese terracotta work, it carries a dry, sandy texture that's genuinely pleasant to run a hand across, and a deep orange-brown color that shifts with the light.
