Attributed to the late 20th century, this hand-carved African Bamileke beadwork stool originates from the Cameroon Grassfields, celebrating regional royal prestige and zoomorphic symbolism. Sculpted by hand from a single block of indigenous hardwood, the piece features an openwork caryatid base carved in the form of a stylized bird totem upholding a circular disc seat above a matching ring plinth. Tens of thousands of black and natural ecru micro-glass seed beads have been meticulously strung and stitched onto fabric-wrapped wood, creating an intricate, tactile mosaic.
The stool presents a high-contrast linear and geometric scheme, featuring concentric and segmented motifs on the circular top juxtaposed against zebra-like horizontal banding wrapping the bird's limbs and wings. A sculptural, downward-angled black beaded bird head with prominent circular white eyes projects forward from beneath the seat, anchoring the piece with a captivating tribal presence. Measuring 14 inches in diameter by 17.5 inches high, this versatile stool functions effortlessly as an organic accent side table, drink perch, plant pedestal, or standalone sculptural artifact in modern, eclectic, or global-inspired spaces. Use this beaded Bamileke stool flanking an armchair or sofa, as an accent nightstand, or styled as a collectible display piece.
