Its presence is architectural rather than decorative, the marble left to lead while the base beneath it works quietly.

Arabescato Vagli is a refined white marble from the Vagli basin in the Apuan Alps, above Carrara. Sweeping grey veins move across its white-to-cream ground in the flowing, arabesque lines that give the stone its name, dramatic without ever tipping into the theatrical. Each top is cut from the block it came from, so no two of these Arabescato Vagli marble side tables share the same figure.

The base is the quieter feat. Two slabs of the same stone are notched and set at right angles, one passing through the other, so the piece carries itself with no brackets and no visible fixing. What holds it up is exactly what draws the eye.
