This piece is … Read more Glazed ceramic vase signed alexandre kostanda, made in vallauris in the second half of the 20th century. This piece is distinguished by its globular, wide-flared body, surmounted by five sculptural necks shaped like mushroom caps with wavy, irregular edges—a stylistic signature characteristic of kostanda's work, somewhere between organicism and art brut.

the chromatic contrast is particularly striking: a body with a speckled, glossy olive green/bronze glaze, extensively cracked, contrasts with necks finished in a matte, textured burgundy/aubergine red, reminiscent of volcanic material. The deliberately irregular and "torn" junction between the body and necks accentuates the organic and unmanufactured appearance of the piece.
