Combining haring’s instantly recognisable graphic figures with kita’s sculptural approach to industrial design, each lamp consists of a screen-printed glass panel set into a tactile stone base. When functioning, the works were designed to produce an electroluminescent glow rather than operate as conventional lamps. Christie’s describes the pair as electro-luminescent fixtures with haring’s figural designs against blue grounds. Both pieces are signed keith haring / k. Haring ’88 and toshiyuki kita and come from an edition of 2,000 . Examples of both models have appeared at christie’s, while on giro is represented in the collection of museum boijmans van beuningen.
