Stone and timber are set in deliberate balance here, the travertine carrying the surface and the oak grounding it beneath.

Roman travertine is the stone of ancient Rome, formed in the mineral springs around Tivoli and used across the Colosseum and the colonnades of St Peter's Square. It carries a soft, creamy beige tone, its delicate linear veining and gently layered structure warmer and more understated than the marbles. The base answers in solid European oak, its honey-toned, open grain warming to the stone above so the travertine and oak settle into a single, considered pairing. Each top is cut from the block it came from, so no two of these Roman travertine and oak side tables share the same figure.

The oak does the work of holding the stone up. Two solid oak boards interlock at right angles into a cross-leg base, one passing cleanly through the other, the joinery left in full view as the piece's single gesture of craft. Stone meets wood with nothing worked in between them.
