This exceptional piece exemplifies the height of 1930s Chinese Art Deco production, merging traditional Eastern aesthetics with the bold, modern sensibilities of the West. It is a stunning example among our collection of antique rugs, showcasing the shift toward open fields and vibrant, painterly borders characteristic of the era.

The expansive, luminous field is rendered in a rich, velvety salmon hue, a highly sought-after shade that defines the rug's sophisticated presence. The subtle sheen of the wool enhances the depth of the color, placing this piece among the finest examples of coral color rugs from the period. The intentional asymmetry and vast open space create a sense of movement and modernity, allowing the texture of the pile to take prominence.

Rather than a traditional central medallion, the design relies on elegantly trailing vines that cascade inward from the corners and edges. These delicate, multi-hued blossoms—rendered in blues, purples, yellows, and greens—provide a striking contrast against the warm ground. This masterful execution of naturalistic elements places it firmly within the category of fine floral rugs.

The scale of this weaving suggests it was intended as a grand centerpiece, perfectly suited for contemporary living spaces where its soft palette can harmonize with modern furnishings. Its generous dimensions classify it as a true room size rug, capable of anchoring a significant interior design scheme. This Art Deco masterpiece remains a timeless statement of elegance and refined taste. See less
