During a career that spanned over fifty years working as an interpreter in Washington, DC our mother encountered thousands of … Read more During a career that spanned over fifty years working as an interpreter in Washington, DC our mother encountered thousands of fascinating people, among them, Luis "Fulano de Tal", whose last name eludes us. He was a South American architect - she believed from Colombia, and he had been commissioned to complete a project for the United Nations in New York.. In 1973 our mother was assigned by the US Department of State to accompany and translate for him over the course of several days. During his stay he asked to visit an art supply. store and he bought paints, brushes, and canvases, then painted prolifically during his spare time. Upon his departure he left several of these works of art in our home because he was unable to pack them in his suitcase.

We have not followed his career in architecture, nor do we know whether he ever exhibited paintings in galleries, but this one certainly has a distinct flair with the textured brushstrokes and blending of a multitude of colors.

This untitled framed work of art measures 9" x 12" x 0.125". There is an illegible signature on the rear, dated 1973. See less
