This exceptional late Qing Dynasty weaving exemplifies the refined aesthetic of Chinese court textiles adapted for Western export. Its substantial dimensions classify it as a true room size rug, ideal for anchoring a sophisticated interior space with historic gravitas.

The primary palette is dominated by a rich, deep indigo, offering the classic tranquility found in blue color rugs. The field is rendered in a subtle, tone-on-tone design of scrolling vines and stylized foliage, creating a mesmerizing depth that shifts under changing light and enhances the rug's antique patina.

While the central area is framed by a delicate, flowering vine cartouche in soft salmon and ivory, the underlying structure relies on a densely packed, repeating motif. This ensures that the visual interest extends uniformly across the entire plane, characteristic of allover rugs from this period, complemented by a refined fretwork border.

Hand-knotted using high-quality wool, this Peking masterpiece showcases the technical skill and artistic restraint of 19th-century Chinese weavers. Such pieces are highly sought after by collectors of fine antique rugs due to their enduring elegance and remarkable historical provenance. See less
