This exquisite example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving represents the pinnacle of the Peking style, highly sought after among collectors of antique rugs. Its generous proportions and dense, luxurious wool pile speak to the quality craftsmanship of the period.

The primary field color is a sophisticated, faded purple—a rare and desirable hue that places this piece firmly within the highly collectible spectrum of purple color rugs. The field employs a subtle, tone-on-tone allover pattern of scrolling vines and stylized cloud bands, creating a visual texture that is both rich and understated, allowing the complex border to frame the composition elegantly.

The broad, contrasting border is a masterclass in traditional Chinese iconography, featuring meticulously rendered phoenixes, stylized blossoms, and the auspicious Endless Knot motif. The use of soft blues, pale pinks, and ochres against the deeper border ground provides a striking contrast to the muted field, highlighting the precision of the Peking weavers.

Designed as a substantial floor covering, the sheer scale of this piece qualifies it as one of the finest room size rugs from the Peking workshops. Its subtle coloration and sophisticated design ensure that this 1920s antique remains perfectly suited for integration into contemporary, high-design environments, offering historical depth without overwhelming modern décor.
