Description:
Presenting a magnificent and highly decorative vintage Chinese hardwood tiered box (picnic box / tea caddy). Crafted from dense, richly grained Zitan Rosewood with a beautiful, deep black-brown patina, this chest features a classic multi-tiered circular design with a central carrying handle.
The most striking feature is the exquisite carving at the ends of the handle, depicting a pair of dragon heads. The lid is beautifully decorated with vibrant Mother-of-Pearl inlay, depicting a charming "Bird and Flower" scene (two birds flying among blooming peonies). The box is built using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and features internal stacking boxes.
Condition: Excellent condition. The wood is solid and sturdy with a beautiful natural patina. All mother-of-pearl inlays are present and secure. The tiers stack smoothly. Minor surface wear and slight oxidation to the hardware, consistent with age and use. No structural damage. Please refer to all photos for exact condition.
