This 14k white gold ring features over a half carat of diamonds and bears the symbol of the Order of the Eastern Star. A chapter of Freemasonry, the Order of the Eastern Star was founded in the 1850’s as a service organization similar to Masonry but that allowed women to participate, operating under the belief that the spiritual teachings of Masonry should be shared by the whole family. The ring is highly symbolic, featuring the five-pointed star along with a gavel. The five-pointed star represents five important women from the Bible: Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa. The symbol of the gavel is used to represent a person with a high position or leadership role, so the gavel on this ring indicates that the ring once belonged to someone important within the organization. The star and gavel are interwoven with a border of leaf and floral motifs, with tiny flower details in each of the corners and delicate milgrain work along the edges.
Diamonds are thoughtfully placed within the ring’s imagery, and all are bead set. The center of the star holds the largest diamond, a stunning transitional cut. Each of the star’s five points are encrusted with two diamonds, and the surrounding border also features diamonds of various sizes. Even the gavel is adorned with a tiny Old Mine Cut. The result is a gorgeous ring with a lot of sparkle. There is something so nice about looking at all the chunky facets of an Old Mine Cut diamond, and the center diamond in this ring is particularly beautiful. And because the star is a popular motif in jewelry, this ring would be beautiful for anyone, and its connection to the Order of the Eastern Star gives it a more interesting history.
The ring contains twenty natural antique diamonds, for a TCW of over 0.5 carats. The central, transitional cut diamond measures 4.5 mm and is G-H in color, VS2 in clarity, and is the brightest diamond in the ring. The nineteen surrounding diamonds vary in size and are mostly Old Mine Cuts, with a few single cuts, ranging from G-M in color and VS2- SL2 in clarity.
The face of the ring measures 11/16” x 5/8” with a height of 1/4”. The band is 1.7 mm wide. The ring weighs 4.26 grams. Unmarked; acid tests as 14k gold.
Ring size 7.75; could be resized.
