Dating to the 2000s, the low cylindrical form measures 7 inches across and weighs an unusually substantial 6.3 lb, giving the compact sculpture considerable physical density and presence.

The irregular hand-built body is deliberately worked rather than mechanically uniform, with a heavily textured exterior finished in variegated green, bronze, brown and black tones. Its iridescent green-bronze surface develops an almost metallic visual character as light moves across the uneven ceramic texture, while the changing colour and roughened modelling emphasise the object’s sculptural construction.

The underside contains a large hollowed central cavity rather than a conventional finished pottery foot, further distinguishing the work from ordinary wheel-thrown functional ceramics. The combination of substantial mass, irregular cylindrical geometry, hollowed underside and extensively worked surface allows the object to function independently as an abstract ceramic sculpture while its low architectural form also gives it the character of a sculptural plinth.

The work was acquired as part of a complete collection of Sherri Cavan studio works comprising ceramic tiles and sculptures, providing direct collection provenance connecting this piece with Cavan’s studio output.
