This magnificent example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a luxurious deep indigo field. Its generous scale makes it ideal for grand interiors, positioning it among the finest room size rugs of the period.

The rich, saturated navy—a hallmark of high-quality Peking production—provides a striking contrast to the finely rendered floral motifs. The selection of blue color rugs from this era often features this specific, highly desirable hue, creating depth and visual texture in the dense wool pile.

A large, elegant central medallion dominates the composition, featuring stylized sprays of peonies and chrysanthemums executed in soft ivory, pale sky blue, and subtle apricot tones. These motifs float gracefully against the dark ground, balanced by smaller, scattered floral bouquets in the corners and along the perimeter.

The wide, multi-layered border frames the central design with continuous, scrolling vines and blossoms set against a warm cream ground. This piece exemplifies the refined artistry and enduring quality found in authentic antique rugs, offering a timeless foundation for any sophisticated space. See less
