These … Read more This set of six vintage mid-century modern SS33 dining armchairs was designed by Anton Lorenz for Thonet circa 1970. These iconic Bauhaus-style chairs feature continuous chrome-plated tubular steel frames with distinctive semicircular bases, floating upholstered seats and curved wraparound backrests forming integrated arms. The chairs are upholstered in a period gray textured fabric. Combining sculptural form with comfortable, solid construction, these distinctive and versatile chairs work well as dining or conference room chairs.

History
The SS33 reflects Anton Lorenz’s important role in the development of modern tubular steel and cantilever seating. Lorenz was closely involved with the production and licensing of tubular steel furniture during the late 1920s and subsequently worked with Thonet, which became one of the leading manufacturers of Bauhaus-era tubular steel furniture. Thonet later revived the Lorenz design during the postwar resurgence of interest in early modernism, advertising it in the 1970s as a “Lorenz Bauhaus classic.”

CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Chrome frames are generally bright and clean. Upholstery fabric is in good condition with general wear consistent with age and normal use.
