Each top depicts a central rosette … Read more This hexagonal stools is upholstered in a hand-worked needlepoint tapestry, dated to the 1950s. Each top depicts a central rosette medallion surrounded by a floral wreath in rose, yellow and blue wool, bordered by a scrolling acanthus motif worked in shades of taupe and olive.

The seat rail is finished in a fine corded brown fabric, secured with a continuous row of hand-set brass nailhead trim along all six sides. Legs are turned in the bobbin, or barley-twist, manner typical of Jacobean revival furniture, with bulbous knops repeating down each leg and joined by matching turned stretchers. Each foot is fitted with a small glass caster, amber and milk-white in colour, allowing the stools to roll.

Construction is solid throughout, with well-matched turning across all twelve legs and a consistent tension to the needlepoint on both examples. A well-suited pair for use as footstools, occasional seating, or as a small side table when set together. See less
