After … Read more Hugues Steiner (1926–1991) was the son of Charles Steiner, who founded the Steiner company in Paris in the 1920s. After his father's death, Hugues took over the company and developed it into one of the most renowned and innovative French furniture manufacturers between the 1940s and 1970s. Hugues Steiner was not only a designer, but above all an entrepreneur, producer, and publisher of furniture. His true significance in design history perhaps lies even more in the fact that he provided an industrial platform for young French designers. Among the most famous were Pierre Guariche, Joseph-André Motte, and René-Jean Caillette. Our side table belongs to Steiner's particularly successful Bow-Wood series.
