A striking, hand-crafted studio art pottery vessel shaped like an armadillo. Heavily inspired by ancient Pre-Columbian West Mexican (Colima) zoomorphic effigies, this contemporary revival piece beautifully bridges ancient indigenous design with mid-to-late 20th-century artisan craftsmanship.
The vessel features a hand-modeled form with a flared collar rim and a stylized face. The body is adorned with intricate, crisp cross-hatched incisions that provide a wonderful tactile, sharp texture to the touch. It stands balanced on four solid pronged tripod feet.
The underside of the vessel is unglazed and unmarked, displaying a clean, dense terracotta clay body. A beautiful, natural dark "firing bloom" (carbon clouding) is visible near the base from the kiln-firing process, adding a lovely touch of rustic authenticity and depth to the unglazed finish.
