This antique painting from Swedish artist Donald William Olson depicts a dramatic coastal cliff scene, dominated by a towering white cliff face that rises sharply from the shore, with sparse vegetation clinging to it, against a beach that meets a calm, hazy sea where the horizon and sky to dissolve gently into one another. It is signed and dated “DWO '32” in the lower right corner (with more artist details on backside). The color palette is comprised of soft, muted palette of creamy whites, pale blues, gray-greens, warm ochres, dusty browns, and subtle peach tones. The painting is housed in a period-style wood frame with a stepped profile and visible age-related wear, including scattered paint loss and surface abrasions to the finish; the artwork itself appears to present well overall, with expected age-related surface wear and an intact canvas visible from the reverse.
