Presented in an ornate gilt frame … Read more Furukawa’s lively, colorful painting features vibrant, fresh greens, blues, yellows, ochres and warm oranges. Presented in an ornate gilt frame (appearing more silver than gold), the work takes on more presence than its modest dimensions might otherwise suggest (the painting itself measures about 17 wide, 14 high, about 19 by 22 with the frame).

A white plume of steam arises among the trees, followed by several freight cars visible through the trees, creating a sense of movement within an otherwise peaceful rural, waterside landscape.

The reverse bears Japanese handwritten notations including terms meaning “oil painting.”

In excellent overall condition, with slight damage to the interior of the frame at the top, on the inner liner. This impressionist/modernist painting was probably accomplished mid-20th Century, either by an accomplished Japanese-American or Japanese artist.

Measurements: 19 1/4 high, 21 3/4 wide. See less
