This magnificent example of early 20th-century weaving represents the pinnacle of Chinese textile artistry. Its sophisticated palette and detailed execution make it a highly desirable piece among antique rugs collectors.

The field is dominated by a saturated, almost midnight indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the scattered floral sprays. The use of this deep, luxurious hue, common among blue color rugs, is characteristic of the finest Peking workshops of the era, contrasting beautifully with the ivory and pale robin's egg accents.

An elegant, open composition features individual blossoms, butterflies, and scrolling vines dispersed across the field, culminating in a dense, stylized central rosette. Given its proportions, this piece is ideally suited to anchor a primary living space, offering the scale and presence expected of room size rugs.

The complex border system frames the central design with layers of visual interest, utilizing a wide cream primary band filled with graceful, flowing floral motifs. This exceptional weaving perfectly blends traditional Chinese symbolism with the refined craftsmanship found in the best examples of oriental rugs from the early Republican period. See less
