This exquisite Chinese Peking piece, dating from the turn of the 20th century, exemplifies the refined elegance characteristic of the period's weaving centers. The design utilizes a strikingly saturated indigo field, providing a dramatic backdrop for the delicate, scattered floral elements, making it a superb example among blue color rugs.

The central field features an open composition, allowing the rich blue wool to dominate, punctuated only by small, gracefully rendered sprays of flowers in soft cream and pale gold. This sparse arrangement contrasts sharply with the densely woven, complex borders, marking it as a highly collectible example among antique rugs.

The main border is defined by a wide band of creamy beige, hosting a continuous, meandering vine populated by various blossoms and foliage. The generous dimensions of this piece allow the sophisticated color theory employed by Peking weavers to fully unfold, making it ideal for those seeking room size rugs.

This rug represents the height of Chinese production before the mid-century shift in styles, offering both historical integrity and enduring decorative appeal. Its excellent condition and classic palette ensure it remains a timeless focal point for refined interiors, blending traditional motifs with a distinctly modern sense of space. See less
