Description:
Presenting a magnificent and highly decorative vintage Chinese hardwood box. Crafted from dense, richly grained Huali Rosewood with a beautiful, warm reddish-brown patina and traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, this chest features a top lid and a single front drawer, making it perfect for storing jewelry, tea, or small collectibles.
The most striking feature is the exquisite Mother-of-Pearl inlay adorning the lid and drawer. The top lid depicts a charming scene of two birds perched on a pomegranate branch, rendered in shimmering white shell with vibrant, iridescent abalone shell accents—symbols of prosperity, good fortune, and many offspring. The drawer front is inlaid with a pair of peaches (symbols of longevity). The front is fitted with an aged brass lock plate and drop pull, and the sides feature brass carrying handles.
Condition: Excellent condition. The wood is solid with a beautiful natural patina. All mother-of-pearl inlays are present and secure. The lid and drawer slide smoothly. Minor surface wear and slight oxidation to the hardware, consistent with age and use. No structural damage. Please refer to all photos for exact condition.
