Up for sale is an exceptional, investment-grade piece of 1980s Hollywood Regency luxury. This extra-large, 30-inch (2.5 feet) statement obelisk is an authentic, verified Maitland-Smith creation, featuring its original gold foil maker’s label intact on the underside reading: "Hand Made in Philippines, Designed by Maitland-Smith Ltd."
This piece showcases masterful craftsmanship. Dozens of individual, genuine mother-of-pearl (pen shell) tiles have been meticulously cut into sharp geometric triangles, polished to a brilliant iridescent sheen, and hand-tessellated over a structural form to create a seamless mosaic. The obelisk sits elegantly on a matching pedestal base elevated by four solid spherical brass ball feet.
At 2.5 feet tall, this monumental sculpture offers incredible commanding presence on a grand mantel, entryway console, or flanking a mid-century sideboard.
