A winding lane passes between rustic stone and stucco houses toward the Church of St. Agatha, with small figures in the distance bringing a quiet sense of country life to the scene. The perspective draws the eye naturally through the village and toward the wooded countryside beyond, creating remarkable depth within the composition.
Lichtfus worked with confident, richly textured brushstrokes, layering warm ochres, earthen browns, muted greens and soft cream beneath a luminous cloud filled sky. The loosely painted architecture, uneven village lane and subtle signs of daily activity give the scene an honest, lived in quality. Its beautifully balanced vertical scale enhances the rising church steeple and allows the artist’s expressive technique and carefully developed perspective to command attention.

Yvette Lichtfus (1925–2014) was a Belgian painter and draftsman born in Arlon, in the French speaking region of Wallonia. She studied drawing and painting at the Académie des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles in the studios of Henri Van Haelen, Aimé Oscar Stevens and Alfred Bastien. She also regarded Antwerp painter Prosper de Wit as an important early mentor. Closely associated with Post Impressionism and the Belgian Luminist tradition, Lichtfus became known for her expressive landscapes, country villages, woodland scenes, portraits and still lifes. In 1948, she received a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, beginning a remarkably long artistic career that continued into the early 2000s.
