An engaging early 19th-century French satirical print titled “La Gourmandise” (Gluttony), dated 1824, after Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761–1845), the celebrated French painter and draftsman known for his sharply observed depictions of everyday life and human character.
The composition depicts three animated figures gathered around a bowl, enthusiastically indulging in food. Exaggerated expressions and gestures transform the everyday scene into a humorous commentary on excess and appetite, characteristic of the popular French satirical imagery of the period.
Presented in a vintage wood frame, the work retains a J. Pratt & Sons, Fine Art Dealers & Picture Framers, Derby, England label on the reverse, adding an appealing layer to the piece's collecting and framing history.
At just over 13 inches high, this is an especially versatile small-format antique work—well suited to a gallery wall, kitchen or dining room, library, study, or an eclectic collection of European works on paper.
