David P. … Read more A framed winter landscape oil on canvas by David Hettinger (American, b. 1946), from the late 20th century. David P. Hettinger is an award-winning painter best known for landscapes, still lifes, and figurative works. This vintage painting depicts a quiet winter scene along Pot Creek near Taos, New Mexico. A narrow stream of deep blue water winds diagonally through the foreground, cutting between banks blanketed in fresh snow, with trees, grasses and reeds lining the water's edge, and a row of dark evergreen trees anchoring the background beneath a softly overcast sky. The work is signed "Hettinger" at the lower right, and the reverse bears an inscription identifying the title Pot Creek, inventory number, size, and location, Taos, New Mexico. There is a harmonious palette of icy and deep blues, soft whites, gray-greens, muted browns, and warm ochre tones. The painting is presented in a molded wood frame with a silvered finish, and thin gold at inner surround, with areas of tangerine, accompanied by a linen liner with some light age-related wear consistent with age.
