Published in paris by aubert circa 1850 as part of the series “les peuples peints par leurs costumes.” the set comprises: 1. Paysan de soller (majorque) – a peasant figure from sóller on the island of majorca, shown in traditional regional dress. 2. Conducteur de marchandises de l’alentejo (portugal) – a goods carrier from the alentejo region of portugal, wearing characteristic local costume. 3. Curra de séville – a woman from seville depicted in colorful traditional andalusian dress. Finely engraved and enhanced with period hand coloring, the three prints provide a fascinating visual record of iberian regional dress and social traditions during the mid-19th century. Together, the engravings present an attractive cross-section of traditional iberian costume, ranging from the more restrained regional clothing of majorca and portugal to the richly colored dress of seville.
