The asymmetric, shield-shaped beveled mirror plate is framed by exuberant scrolling acanthus leaves and pierced ajour scrollwork, crowned by a cherub reaching up into a spray of foliage, with a second cherub reclining below the glass. The mirror tilts on an easel-style hinged strut back, allowing it to be angled for use on a vanity or dresser.

Rendered in a warm antiqued gold finish, the piece shows the fine hand-finished casting typical of late 19th-century French decorative bronzes — soft wear to the high points, a naturally aged patina, and crisp detail in the cherubs' faces, wings, and drapery. The mirror plate itself has a lovely soft, slightly smoky antique glass quality.

A wonderful decorative accent for a vanity, dressing table, or bookshelf — equally at home as a piece of tabletop sculpture as it is a functional mirror.
