A striking antique French picture frame dating to the late 19th century, featuring a rich blue-painted surround accented with elaborate gilt metal corner mounts and fine gilt inner trim.
The frame has a highly decorative look, with sculptural scrolling corner ornaments, cross-hatched details, floral and foliate motifs, and a narrow beaded gilt border surrounding the image. The saturated blue finish provides a beautiful contrast to the aged gold decoration and gives the piece a distinctive French decorative quality.
Currently displayed in the frame is a period-style image of a country hunter or gamekeeper with his dog in a winter landscape. The print has muted blue, brown, cream, and sepia tones that complement the frame beautifully. The image may be retained as displayed or replaced with another work of art or photograph.
The reverse retains older backing materials and hanging hardware, adding to the frame's antique character.
