Striking large vintage Chinese carved wood sculpture depicting Guanyin (Kuan Yin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, surrounded by an elaborate openwork arrangement of lotus flowers, leaves and carved birds.

The nearly 24-inch-tall sculpture is richly carved from wood with a warm aged brown finish. Guanyin is depicted with a serene expression, flowing robes and raised blessing hand, framed by an intricate pierced botanical background. Multiple birds and lotus forms surround the lower portion of the sculpture, creating an unusually detailed and dimensional composition.

The reverse reveals the hand-carved construction and natural wood grain. No maker's signature or identifying workshop mark has been located. Believed to be Chinese and dating approximately to the mid-20th century.

A substantial decorative sculpture with excellent presence, suitable for an Asian art collection, meditation space, library, entryway or curated interior.

Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related surface wear, rubbing, small nicks and scattered losses to some of the delicate carved details.
