The center features the iconic French … Read more A wonderfully colorful vintage HB Quimper rooster plate, entirely hand painted in Brittany, France. The center features the iconic French coq, or rooster, painted in brilliant yellow, cobalt blue, green, pink and rust tones. He stands among stylized flowers and foliage, surrounded by an elaborate floral border and gently scalloped rim. The vivid palette and bold folk-art painting make this an especially decorative example of Quimper pottery. The reverse is marked: HB QUIMPER FRANCE entièrement décoré main meaning “entirely decorated by hand.” Additional handwritten factory/decorator notation appears above the mark. Roosters are among the most recognizable motifs associated with French decorative arts, making this an especially appealing piece for a French-country kitchen or plate wall.
