Beautiful antique copper and repoussé brass decorative wastepaper basket, dating approximately to the late 19th/early 20th century.
This substantial cylindrical vessel features a warm aged copper body surrounded by exceptionally ornate embossed brass floral and foliate bands at the upper and lower sections. The highly detailed decoration includes scrolling leaves, flowers and acanthus-style motifs, giving the piece a richly Victorian/Edwardian decorative character.
The vessel has traditional hand-constructed metalwork with a visible vertical seam and rolled copper edges. The interior and underside retain evidence of age, oxidation and original patina.
Originally intended as a decorative wastepaper basket/waste bin, it would also make a striking accent piece for an office, library, study, dressing room or traditional interior. It could also be used decoratively as a cachepot or vessel.
A wonderful statement piece for collectors of antique copper, brass, Victorian decorative arts and architectural metalwork

The copper displays scratches, scuffs, discoloration and areas of oxidation consistent with age and previous use. The brass decoration has darkened patina and surface variation. There is a visible vertical construction seam, and some wear/separation is present around the upper rim at the seam. Nothing is loose or broken. There is a small dent on one side but not very noticeable. No attempt to correct it has been made as it adds to the character of this piece. The interior has oxidation/verdigris and age-related discoloration. The piece has not been aggressively polished or restored, preserving its aged character and patina.
