Constructed with classic architectural proportions, the central square spice chamber features openwork lattice/pierced sides allowing the aroma of spices to escape. One face is fitted with a hinged, latching door featuring embossed floral-and-foliate details for loading aromatic cloves or spices.

The tower is embellished with four corner pennant flags on tubular posts, four hanging bells underneath the chamber that ring upon movement, a tall conical spire, and a top-surmounting swallowtail flag. The piece rests upon a stepped dome base stamped explicitly on the lower rim edge with "STERLING".
