A beutiful vintage First Limited Edition art folio "Chagall" created, published and printed in French, by Editions du Chêne in Paris, France, in 1947. Edition No 195. Poem "Marc Chagall" by Paul Eluard. Introduction by Leon Degand. Complete set of 17 full-color prints (offset lithographs), including the one on the cover. The prints are hand tipped-in to the high quality heavy paper bards. Information regarding the original artworks in printed in the French underneath the pieces, and numbered on the boards: I-XVI. 15 of 16 prints are signed in pencil: "Chagall", and numbered at the lower corner of each board: "75". We don't know if the signature is authentic. Perhaps, number "75" on each board means that this is 75 of 100 portfolios offered to be signed in pencil by the artist, as it was assumed by a person who worked in the printing industry for 35 years. This is the only Chagall portfolio in our collection which has pieces signed in pencil. Soft cover, glassine jacket.
Very Good condition - some age wear and tanning on the glassine jacket and the upper and lower edges of the spine (image #17), the soft cover, all pages are clean, the boards have some age and edge wear, one print has a crease (image #8), all the other prints are in excellent condition.
Overall portfolio is 11.10"W x 15.05"D x 0.45"H
