It typically consists of an oval glass bell jar, a wooden base, and a velvet cushion, often red. This item was common in France from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century and symbolized the bride's purity and virtue. The globe de mariée was personalized with decorative elements made of wax, paper, glass, and gilded metal, reflecting the expectations and norms of women during that era. This is a beautiful example.
