The vase is formed from exceptionally thick glass, with a saturated cobalt-blue core surrounded by contrasting yellow and translucent aqua-toned glass. The layered Sommerso construction creates pronounced shifts in color and depth as the piece is viewed from different angles, while the hand-cut exterior facets introduce a strong sculptural quality. Its tapered body broadens toward a substantial polished rim, framing the circular blue opening. Repeated vertical cuts around the exterior create elongated, pointed facets that emphasize the thickness and optical qualities of the glass. The three-color construction further accentuates these cuts, producing a graphic interplay of cobalt blue, yellow and aqua. Hand-blown and subsequently cut and polished, the vase reflects the sculptural approach of postwar Murano art glass. Cut and faceted forms became an important part of Murano glass design during the mid-20th century, with deeply worked surfaces used to emphasize the optical effects and layered color of substantial glass forms. The vase is unsigned. Good vintage condition with light surface wear, minor edge wear and base wear, together with some miniscule fleabites. No restoration or repairs.
