Important daum nancy art nouveau “fleurs des champs” enameled & gilt glass vase, c.1900 – 39.2 cm
daum nancy – important vase art nouveau “fleurs des champs”, verre multicouche gravé à l’acide, émaillé et doré – vers 1900 – h. 39,2 cm
daum frères, nancy – important art nouveau “fleurs des champs” vase, circa 1900.
an important and unusually large art nouveau vase by daum frères, nancy, école de nancy, france, circa 1900.
executed in multilayer blown glass with a finely acid-etched, polychrome enamelled and gilt naturalistic decoration of wild meadow flowers, including daisies, cornflowers and dandelion seed heads.
the tall baluster body displays a remarkable graduated ground ranging from pale yellow and cream at the upper section to deep violet/amethyst towards the lower body. The flowers and grasses are delicately outlined and heightened with enamel and gilt details against the finely frosted surface.
of particular note is the elaborate circular foot, decorated with a richly worked frieze of blue and dark enamelled stylised flowers and foliage over an intricate reticulated gilt ground. Comparable daum “fleurs des champs façon herbier” vases are documented with acid-etched gilt friezes and blue enamelled thistle decoration.
the combination of acid etching, polychrome enamelling and extensive gilding represents the sophisticated decorative techniques developed by daum during the height of the école de nancy and french art nouveau.

“daum † nancy”
