An early twentieth-century American fireplace log holder or firewood carrier dating to circa 1910–1930, constructed from hammered sheet metal / iron with riveted and strapped structural elements. The broad curved cradle is supported by four raised shaped feet and a substantial carrying handle, giving the piece both practical hearth function and strong architectural presence.
The metal surface is extensively hammer textured and retains an aged gold-coloured applied finish with natural variation developed through use. A central structural strap reinforces the body, while the riveted construction and shaped supports contribute to the Craftsman and Mission character of the form.
At 22 inches long and weighing 8 lb, the basket has substantial scale for hearth storage and is well suited to holding firewood beside a fireplace while also serving as a decorative Arts & Crafts accessory.
