Crafted from richly ebonized wood, the architectural stepped form is embellished with silverplate mounts, creating a dramatic contrast between the dark wood and bright metalwork.

Commanding the lid is an impressive thick silverplate statue of a Greyhound, beautifully modeled with a lean, athletic profile and finely articulated musculature. The sculptural dog gives the piece tremendous presence, while the geometric silverplate appliqués and stepped construction capture the unmistakable glamour and symmetry of the Art Deco period.

The box's original purpose is unknown, though given its generous proportions and gentlemanly sporting theme, it may have originally served as a cigar or cigarette box. Whatever its intended use, its unusual scale, sculptural lid, and elaborate construction make it an exceptional decorative object and a particularly rare form.

Substantial in both size and weight, the box weighs over 4 pounds, giving it an impressively solid and luxurious presence. It measures 11.5 inches wide, 8.5 inches deep, and 10.25 inches high. Good antique condition with some areas of wear to the wood and silverplate losses. Small crack to wood near hinges. One foot has a slight looseness, one screw is missing.
