An exceptionally fine hand-painted antique porcelain figurine couple depicting an intimate Rococo courtship scene. Set upon a molded, gilt-scroll Rococo base with diamond-parquet flooring, the scene features a seated gentleman in an elaborate floral coat, purple-striped breeches, and a queued wig, gazing up at a standing maiden dressed in a vibrant green bodice, floral skirt, and lace cap holding a broom.
The figures display expressive facial features, delicate modeling, and meticulous polychrome hand-painted detailing—from the intricate floral sprigs on the garments to the blue plaid upholstery on the chair back and fine gilded accents along the base scrollwork.
Markings & Origin
The underside of the unglazed base edge features an incised/impressed Bindenschild (Austrian Habsburg shield / beehive) mark, indicative of 18th to early 19th-century Imperial Vienna Porcelain Manufactory or early high-quality period porcelain in the Vienna tradition.
Key Brand Details:
• Manufactory / Brand: Imperial Vienna Porcelain (Austria)
• Factory Mark: The impressed mark on the underside of the rim is the historic Habsburg Shield (Bindenschild). Antique collectors often refer to this crest as the "beehive mark" because of its inverted shape.
• Dating / Production Era: Stamped/impressed blind marks (incised directly into the raw paste rather than painted in blue underglaze) were used during the factory's earlier periods (1744–1749) and re-introduced between 1827 and 1850.
