The Warranted Wonder cast iron shoe anvil. A beautiful, authentic piece of vintage Americana.
This heavy-duty cobbler's tool/shoe making anvil features the classic tiered design. It's embossed with "The Warranted Wonder" and the numbers "1, 2, and 3", representing the different footwear sizes it was built to service. It features a fantastic, genuine aged patina that gives it incredible historic character.
This is a Family heirloom. Unfortunately, there's no family left to pass it on to that has an interest in its history.
Backstory: The anvil belonged to my grandfather. Big, tall man, who actually was called "Big John". He was an entrepreneur of sorts with many side lines: cut and sold wood, well digger, outhouse hole digger (hopefully well separated), repaired Model A and T Ford cars and trucks, general all around handy man. One of his many talents was making shoes for my Mom, her three sisters and a brother until they were school age, at which time they got "Store Bought Shoes". He also repaired shoes for people; new heels, new soles and half soles, resewed seams, fixed heels and straps on women's shoes, etc., and made infant and young child shoes.
Excellent vintage condition with a solid, heavy structure. It has a beautiful weathered look with natural surface aging. No rust, structural cracks, or pitting.
Versatile rustic decor. Ideal for display or practical use, this piece is a timeless reminder of the skilled artistry of bygone eras. Perfect as an industrial bookend, a standout display piece for antique and antique tool collectors, and last but not least, it makes one heck of a good doorstop.
