Standing an impressive 65" tall, this substantial mirror features hand-incised linear and foliate carving along the frame — the classic machine-incised decoration of the American Eastlake/Aesthetic Movement period, where fine gouged lines catch the stain differently than the surrounding wood, giving the pattern subtle dimension without heavy gilding. A narrow gilt-gesso liner frames the beveled mirror plate itself, adding a soft glow against the rich oak.

This mirror was originally the swing/tilt mirror portion of a full cheval stand — you can still see the original pivot holes on either side rail where it once hung between wooden uprights, tilting to any angle. It has since been separated from its base and works beautifully as a large statement leaning mirror or wall-mounted piece.

A wonderful architectural antique for an entry, bedroom, or dressing area — substantial presence, warm patina, and genuine 19th-century character.
