Original large-format French lithographic exhibition poster, “Le Hoggar – Peintures et Dessins de Paul Élie Dubois,” dating to the French colonial period in Algeria, circa late 1920s/early 1930s.
The poster advertises an exhibition of paintings and drawings by French artist Paul Élie Dubois (1886–1949) inspired by the Hoggar (Ahaggar) region of the central Sahara. Dubois became particularly known for his paintings and drawings of the Sahara and its Tuareg inhabitants following his travels in southern Algeria.
The striking composition features a monumental portrait of a Tuareg woman in traditional dress against a warm yellow ground, surrounded by a graphic black border.
The poster bears the period printer’s mark “Imp. Lucien Serre & Cie – Paris” along the lower edge. The exhibition text also references Pierre Bordes, Governor-General of Algeria, helping place the poster within its original colonial-era historical context.
This is a period lithographic poster, not a modern decorative reproduction.
The poster retains a visible cream-colored margin outside the printed black border and is presented in a substantial black frame behind glass. Its unusually large scale makes it an impressive statement piece.
